what is a virtue?

Often people ask, what is a virtue and why is it important?  A virtue is something that is important to us, and God decides what they are.  They are character traits that are formed on the inside, not just something one can “put on”.  A virtue is what comes from your heart, whether you are going through a good time, or involved in an intense struggle.  Most people these days are concerned with “presentation”, not character.  The outside of an individual, how her or she looks, is overemphasized to the neglect of what is on the inside.  We are concerned with the heart.  We want to help the parents and adults in a child’s life shape their hearts.  We believe that the Bible is the ultimate authority for how we should live. We look to the actions and beliefs of Jesus to shape how we live.  Let’s face it, we all need someone we trust to come and help us at times in our life.  We want to be people who are actively involved in the lives of the kids of Treasure Island.  We want to help them become more like Jesus Christ every day.  And instilling something more than just knowledge is very important to us.  We want to shape the heart of the child.

Below is our schedule of virtues through the end of the calendar year.  We hope that you will be able to continually engage your children in thinking about these concepts as we change our virtue each month!
