God's people have been raising their voices together in songs of worship for thousands of years, and music is and has always been an important part of every corporate worship environment at PC3. Because of this, we spend a lot of time and energy to play and sing in such a manner that both leads and accompanies the Church in worship. We work hard to ensure that the quality of the music is excellent, but more importantly we desire to be a team who lives the words that we sing.

Psalm 115:1 says, “Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your Name be the glory because of your love and faithfulness.” Here at Port City Community Church we desire nothing more than God being lifted high and his name be glorified. We see in God’s Word many different postures of worship (kneeling, hands raised, dancing, making a joyful noise, shouts of praise, etc) and we hope to create an environment that allows His people to respond to Him in the ways that He has deemed appropriate.

As for our Sunday morning worship team, we spend a few hours eating together, practicing and praying on Wednesday nights, and another hour or so on Sunday mornings, before the services begin (our other corporate worship services such as Tsunami, Ripple Effect and Overflow have very similar schedules). We’re always looking for individuals who have hearts for God and a passion for music. We’re looking for worshipers with hearts that are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and ears that are in tune with progressive musical culture.

Psalm 33:3 calls us to “play skillfully to the Lord” and we at PC3 believe that God is worthy of our diligence, and honored by our pursuit of excellence. That being said, however, the Bible teaches a beautiful balance between “playing skillfully to the Lord” and “making a joyful noise” in our praise, and thus, we are not looking to have the slickest performance in town. In one of the most beautiful explosions of worship in the entire Bible (Revelation 5), the impetus was neither strategic leadership, nor fancy modulation, nor emotional manipulation; the impetus was just seeing the Lamb who was slain. At Port City Community Church, we seek only to glorify God, to lift Him up and watch as He draws all men to himself. It’s not about a performance; it’s not about a show; it’s not about the band or the singers… It’s all about Jesus and seeing Him exalted. Anyone on our team must be marked by the same conviction.

Anyone interested in being a part of the worship team must be at least 16 years of age, be in a PC3 small group with a minimum of three months regular attendance, must fill out an information sheet, sign the commitment form, and turn all of this in with a demo recording of some sort (ie. studio recording you played or sang on, live recording you played or sang on, heck we have had people sing a cappella into a hand held recorder and turn that in…. we just want to have a recording of you playing or singing) to the Front Desk during the week or Guest Services on a Sunday.
