Cary S. is PC3’s missionary serving in Ethiopia as a teacher at an international school. In this position, Cary has the opportunity of being the message among children of many different cultures and beliefs. When she is not teaching, Cary devotes time to reaching the people of Ethiopia outside the school. Cary serves single mothers and their children who live in the city, by helping teach them life and vocational skills. Cary is leading her co-workers in a program she developed for the young women in the neighborhood surrounding their school. Through this program and the relationships that are formed, the young women are taught values. Pray that as Cary works and ministers, God will continue to give her clarity as to whether she is to remain in Ethiopia or serve elsewhere. Pray also for Cary’s physical and spiritual health, and for fruitful ministry. If you would like to know more about Cary’s ministry pick up one of her brochures at the information center on Sundays. Andrea and McKenzie D. have been appointed as missionaries by Pioneers Mission Agency. They are in the partnership development phase of leaving for what they plan to be a life-time of service in Trieste, Italy. Serving alongside a group of T.E.A.M. missionaries in Trieste, the D.s will be part of a church planting and development team. They also hope to begin a ministry to reach out to youth in the community and eventually develop a youth center. Andrea and McKenzie have just completed their pre-field training and are working towards raising adequate support to begin their mission in Italy this summer. PC3 considers it a privilege to be part of sending this couple out as our missionaries. If you or your small group would like for them to share more with you about their mission, e-mail us and we’ll be glad to help arrange for them to speak with you. Pray for open doors and hearts as the D.s continue raising support, pray for wisdom and discernment in their ministry in Italy, pray for the people in Trieste to have open hearts to receive the message, and pray that the local church leadership in Trieste will continue to strengthen. If you would like to read more about this area or Andrea and McKenzie’s plans, check out their website.
Emily C. spent the summer of 2009 in Guinea, West Africa, working alongside a team of New Tribes missionaries with which PC3 has partnered to minister to an unreached people group. These people have a heart language that is different than the national language of French. It is one of many unwritten languages throughout Africa and across the world. The missionaries Emily worked with have been in Guinea for several years learning the culture and language of this people group, with the goal and hope of sharing the Gospel with them in their heart language. Translating God's word in their language and equipping them with the ability to read is a necessary step in this process.
During her time there, Emily was able to help coordinate the team’s efforts and support them as they prepared their literacy materials and Bible-story teachings. She also served as a liaison between the team and PC3 in the development of some of these materials. Now that Emily is back in the U.S., she and the team in Guinea are in the stages of preparing literacy material with the goal of teaching the people there to read their own language. She is helping the missionaries create the primers (the literacy material or books) for this language, along with lesson plans and supplemental materials to teach. While in Guinea, Emily was able to accomplish what was needed to start writing the books and assist in writing the first four primers; stateside, she is now working on the layout of each book and the flash cards, etc., while helping get them printed and sent back over to Guinea. Stephen Elyes has been the illustrator for the primers, drawing pictures from photos Emily took in Guinea.
Pray that God would begin to prepare the hearts of the people in this tribe to hear the Gospel. Pray that He would give them a desire to learn to read their language and read His word. Pray also that God would protect the missionaries on the field, along with their families, while they prepare to teach literacy, share the Gospel and translate the Bible. Pray that God would bless the missionaries in Guinea for their selfless and steadfast faith by allowing them to see their fruit: to see people come to know Christ. Pray for the literacy project itself and all the obstacles possible in working with a team long distance.
