Beginning in 2009, an opportunity opened for PC3 to serve on the Apache and Navajo Indian Reservations of Arizona through the American Indian Christian Mission (AICM). AICM is a weekday boarding school for Native American children. At AICM, children are in a comfortable, positive and encouraging learning environment, surrounded by people committed to ensuring they are given a chance for a brighter future. Short-term teams serve in the mornings at AICM by doing grounds and building maintenance, light construction, administrative office or library work, and other work projects. In the afternoons, they go out into the surrounding communities, taking part in AICM’s bus ministry. They load onto one of the buses, equipped with all kinds of craft supplies and sports equipment, and ride through the neighborhoods gathering up children. Upon arrival at a local park or other gathering place, they spend several hours with the children teaching Bible lessons, singing, dancing, and just hanging out and playing. As relationships are formed, the team members are able to share Christ and build on previous teams’ efforts in helping these children grow in their own relationships with God.
Another opportunity for teams to serve at AICM is for them to host a children’s camp, taking on responsibility for the ministry and other activities for the week. The facilities and grounds of AICM, located in the White Mountains of Arizona, are the perfect place for this camp. Spending time in this community enables our team members to experience a culture that is different than what we are used to here in Southeastern North Carolina. We are excited that this has become a great avenue for families at PC3 to serve and grow together. We look forward to a continuing relationship between PC3 and the staff at AICM for the purpose of serving others in this area.
