Q: What is the leadership structure of PC3 - do you have deacons?
A: The leadership structure of Port City Community Church is set up based on a Biblical model of church government. We have three governing bodies that each have unique roles. We do not have a board of deacons, as we feel that deacons are a role that serves as a ministry arm of the church and not a leadership arm. The three bodies at PC3 are as follows:
The Board of Directors is responsible for the physical and legal side of decisions. They serve as an advisory board to the staff and are responsible for setting the pastoral and staff salaries as well setting the yearly budget. The church nominates the Board members every spring, then interviewed and affirmed by the board to serve one-year renewable terms.
The Board of Elders serve to keep the church on track spiritually. They oversee the teaching direction and handle any conflict resolution or church discipline issue that may arise. The Elders are made up of the Pastoral Staff.
The Staff is made up of paid staff and volunteer staff. They are the ones who directly lead the ministry teams and whose primary role is to equip the church to do the ministry. To meet the staff visit the Staff page of this site.
Q: Can anyone serve at PC3, and how do I plug in?
A: Service in the church is a critical part of your spiritual growth. We don't serve because the church needs things done. We serve because God has gifted us with certain gifts and talents that are unique to us that are to be used for the building up of the church. There are several ways to plug into volunteering. The way to volunteer is to simply show interest to a ministry team leader or turn in an interest card. We will help show you the best options for you and help plug you into service. You can also check out our connect page for an overview of the many ways you can connect at PC3!
Q: Will PC3 ever have a Sunday School program for adults and children?
A: Acts 2:42-47 speaks of the early church studying scripture, fellowshipping, breaking bread and praying together daily from house to house, meeting needs of others as they occurred. At Port City, we approach our groups in a similar manner. The group will go through studies ranging from Books of the Bible to marriage studies to simple accountability in everyday life. Struggles are shared and prayed for and care given to each one. Food and fellowship are had as meaningful relationships are built. The goal is to grow with each other in authentic relationships and with Christ. Periodically, groups will go out to eat together, the beach, etc... simply doing life together.
Q: Is PC3 a cult?
A: Believe it or not, we do get asked this question from time to time. The short answer is no. PC3 is an abbreviated form of PCCC or Port City Community Church. Our logo is a water drop tilted sideways and not a planet out in space. The water drop is something that starts small and ripples out to infinity. We are, however, very interested in creating a CULTure of Christ followers who are fully devoted to reaching people and helping them walk with God.
Q: Can I get the music from Sunday Morning recorded on a CD?
A: We get this question nearly every Sunday and the answer is "yes... more or less." We recorded our first live record on the final weekend of July in 2005. The record contains many of the songs we play normally and is available for purchase in our resource center at Roland-Grise Middle School or Mayfaire Cinema 16 on Sundays. In addition, most of the music we present in our Weekend Services is available on various artists' CDs that you can purchase on the web or at a local music retailer. A small variety of worship CDs can be found in the resource center as well.
Q: Can I promote my event or ministry thru Port City Community Church?
We typically do not promote events, ministries or businesses at Port City Community Church. We aim to be focused on our mission and remain simple, clear, and impartial to different groups. We know that it is impossible to grant all of the requests that we receive of this kind and find it hard to promote some events and not others. We also ask that you do not distribute flyers at our meetings or in our parking lots.
